March 16 ~ 10 Billion Years Ago Today

A comment caused me to think for myself, and I did some
research on that period in history.

There was a large group of people on planet Earth that
had evolved just as you described. They spent most of
their time in a virtual world of animation and
reanimation. Over time, they lost touch with reality,
and when an asteroid hit the planet in 2020, they were
not equipped to clean up and rebuild after the flood
waters subsided.

We don't have much information from that planet's
pre-history but it says here, "This is what we've
learned to date: The only people to survive the floods
were from a remote region known as, Tuva. Kongar-Ol
Ondar, their oldest known leader, was remembered for
saying, "We are the ancestors of the eyes of the
future." Tuvan mythology talks about an ancient race of
people who floated through cities in mystical chairs,
who spoke to each other by writing, a people who lived
in peace in a world consumed with war."

How many times have we seen *that* epic story unfold in
the last 10 billion years, eh? It's interesting to note
that we continue to find this ancient Tuvan saying
written in stone on every planet that holds geological
evidence of a human-like presence : )

March 7, 2016 ~ 5 Years Ago Today

I'm happy to report that an off-the-wall comment on the
now defunct FB social network was like snapping my
fingers in front of a hypnotized audience, all in the
interest of sharing. The iPad's magnetic cover was
instantly seen for exactly what it is, and that irony
caused the entire consumer technology market to take a
deep breath, and for once, they did what they preached:
They "re-thought" their own thoughts and averted a
disaster, and THAT change averted the prophesied crash
of 2012. During that process the public woke up and
band-aids once again became a medical aid, not a
fashion statement.

Apple had already gone through 2 public trials of
replacing classic plugs and receptacles with magnetic
power cords. Apple then showed the world how to add an
antenna, a solar cell array, and a nano-tech ac/dc
receiver to any portable device disguised as a cover
with a magnetic latch.

Within one year two thirds of the products in a Best
Buy were eliminated in the dust of progress, but
because everyone knew what was happening, and why it
was happening, the economy did not crash. All of the
retired products were donated to the people in the
world who were rising up against dictatorships, and for
the first time in history, everyone actually got along;
more or less; for a while. But I'm a dreamer and I
could still be dreaming.

That's today. Five years ago? I don't know. We'll
see when that day arrives, eh?

March 7, 2121 ~ 110 Years Ago Today

Indeed, we have managed to fly for more than a century
now, but it's hard to imagine that only 110 years ago
my Great Great Great Grandfather (4G) was just starting
to realize that humankind could, in fact, grow wings
and fly. They were still Sky Diving and starting to
explore the field of Genomic Engineering.

They were moving from the infancy of computing into the
kindergarden of finger-painting with what they called
an iPad. IOW, They were learning, and spending the
rest of their time having fun. As you know, I found
4G's journals in a digital time capsule encoded in a
frozen DNA sample (clever idea even today, let alone
back in the day). 110 years ago today he wrote,

"I'm amazed at how short sighted people are today.
Here we are, for the first time in recorded history,
gathering the libraries of history into one huge data
base, and yet no one seems to see the forest for the
trees. When people like John Craig Venter say they're
writing code that is used to create DNA that contains
the code, they mean exactly that, not something else.
It's not an analogy, not a metaphor, not something only
an elite few can understand.

"It is the literal truth. But because most people
today are worried about the colors Green, Blue and
Pink, they think the word "code" is code for something
else, when it is exactly this: computer code. We have
already made a chicken with 5 wings by modifying DNA.
We have printed skin and replacement organs using DNA
and 3D printers. Am I the only one who sees that we
are technologically capable of growing wings on human
beings? Not tomorrow, but today? And that the details
of adopting realistic flight dynamics is only a year or
two of trial and error away?

"This isn't science fiction, it's science fact. Many
scientists think we have reached the end of the tree in
terms of natural selection; that evolution for humans
has stopped. I disagree. If we have a natural
disaster that shakes the earth to the core, the best
chance for survival will be in the wings of flight.

"If we don't have such a natural disaster, then we will
fulfill one of mankind's longest dreams, to fly like a
bird, to become like an angel. To my grandson who is
now a young man, and to my granddaughter being born as
I write these notes, may you both be able to fly during
your days so you too can soar in your dreams."

4G wrote that as my great grandmother was being born,
and if I could, I would jump in a time machine and give
the old guy a hug. Because there's something about
knowing that I flew in his dreams, 110 years ago today.
